Open Water Certification


Prerequisite: must be 10 years old or older, and know how to swim.

Open Water certifications allow divers to dive as deep as 60 feet. In this entry level certification course, individuals will learn the fundamentals of diving and how to dive safely in open water. Students begin with an self paced academics designed to effectively teach all the knowledge based information and preview the skills that will be applied to confined and open water settings.

Course Requirements:

  1. eLearning of fundamental scuba concepts through NAUI and ebook through PADI
  2. Minimum of five confined water (pool) sessions
  3. Four open water check-out dives (two dives per day over two days)

Equipment needed:

  • Mask
  • Snorkel
  • Boots
  • Scuba Fins
  • Water Resistant Timepiece (min. 33ft or 10m)
  • Surface Marker Buoy
  • Optional: Dive watch

For young individuals, NAUI and PADI offer a Jr. Open Water Scuba Diver certification for ages 10-15. During the Junior period, these divers are restricted to diving only with parents, guardians or dive professionals as their dive buddy. The purchase and training process is exactly the same and the standard Open Water Suba Diver.
